Donating items

Help raise vital funds to support our animals

Together, we can give animals a second chance

Donating to the RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield & District Branch charity shops helps fund essential care for local abused and abandoned animals, as we are a separately registered charity needing independent funds. Your donations of clothing, bric-a-brac, and small furniture support our animal rehabilitation and rehoming, and promote sustainability by recycling goods.

Why donate?

Donating your unwanted items instead of throwing them away is a simple way to make a real difference for animals in need. By giving your pre-loved clothes, books, homeware or collectibles a second life, you’re helping us turn everyday items into vital funds for food, shelter, and medical care. Recently, a vintage designer handbag donated to us was sold online for a fantastic amount, raising enough to cover several weeks of food and veterinary care for an animal. Your donations don’t just reduce waste, they directly transform into brighter, healthier futures for our animals.

How can you donate?

There are lots of easy and convenient ways to donate to us and support the animals in our care. You can drop your pre-loved items directly to any of our charity shops during opening hours, or bring suitable donations straight to our animal centre where our team will gladly receive them. Starting in October, we will have a donation drop-off service running at our Animal Centre every Wednesday from 10am-4pm.

If you’re unable to travel, you can arrange for a collection so your items can be picked up from your home if you have 6 bags or more. Please contact our Head of Retail, Amanda, on 07771 832 586 to arrange a collection. We also host special donation drive-thru mornings at our Animal Centre one Saturday every month, making it quick and simple to donate.

However you choose to donate, every item helps us raise vital funds to provide food, shelter, enrichment and veterinary care for our animals.

What happens to your donation?

When you donate to us, every item is carefully handled to ensure it raises the maximum possible funds for our animals. All donations are first sorted by our experienced team. High-value or collectible items are set aside to be sold online through platforms like eBay, where they can reach a wider audience and fetch the best price. Everyday items are distributed to our charity shops, where they help generate essential income through local sales. This ensures that every donation, whether big or small, goes to the right place and is put to work quickly, transforming your generosity into food, veterinary care, and a safe, happy home for the animals we care for.

Don't forget to Gift Aid!

Gift Aid is a simple way for a small local animal charity like ours to make every donation go further. When donors who pay UK tax add Gift Aid to their contribution, we can reclaim the tax they’ve already paid, increasing the value of their gift by 25% at no extra cost to them. For a small charity, this makes a huge difference, it means more money for food, veterinary care, and enrichment for the animals we rescue and care for. Even a modest donation can have a much bigger impact with Gift Aid, helping us provide the best possible care for every animal that comes through our doors.
